Matthew Johnson, proud owner of MJ Formalwear, was born and raised right here in Broome County and brings over 15 years of experience in the formalwear industry. Throughout his career, Matt managed stores and helped countless customers look and feel their best for life’s most important moments.
After many successful years in formalwear, Matt expanded his professional journey into the market research industry as a Business Development Executive, gaining valuable insight into customer service, relationship-building, and business growth. When the opportunity arose to take over Charbel’s as its owner prepared to retire, Matt knew it was the perfect chance to return to the industry he truly loves.
Supported by his family and proud to serve his hometown, Matt focuses on creating a comfortable, personalized experience for every customer. He values lasting relationships and takes pride in helping clients look sharp and feel confident for life’s important moments.
Meet our Head Tailor
Anna Ricci is the heart of our tailoring department and our exceptional Head Tailor. Originally from Italy, Anna began her journey in tailoring at a young age, learning alongside her cousin as they created handmade garments from scratch. Her experience includes crafting skirts, dresses, coats, jackets, and wedding gowns, all rooted in traditional Italian techniques. Anna also studied fashion design in Italy, refining her eye for detail and fit.
What truly sets Anna apart is the care she brings to every customer. She takes pride in making sure each person feels confident, comfortable, and their absolute best. Many of our clients come in specifically asking for Anna, knowing they’ll receive expert craftsmanship and personal attention that goes above and beyond.
Meet our Formalwear Specialist
Taylor Gillette is a valued member of the MJ Formalwear team and brings a passion for fashion, customer service, and helping people look their very best. A lifelong resident of Broome County and graduate of Owego Free Academy, Taylor combines local roots with valuable industry experience.
Before joining MJ Formalwear, Taylor spent two years in Syracuse working in management for a men’s clothing retailer, where she developed strong skills in styling, customer relations, and helping clients find the perfect look for every occasion. Her knowledge of fashion and attention to detail make her an excellent resource for customers preparing for weddings, proms, business events, and other special moments.
In addition to assisting customers on the sales floor, Taylor plays an important role in our tailoring department. She helps with garment preparation, fittings, and minor alterations, ensuring each customer receives the quality and personalized service that MJ Formalwear is known for.
Taylor takes pride in making every customer feel comfortable, confident, and well-dressed. Her friendly personality, fashion expertise, and dedication to exceptional service make her an important part of the MJ Formalwear family.
